The Unique Tract Story
My husband and I moved half way across the country from the Midwest to the Southwest. Talk about a change. It's not just the weather that's different, it's everything. And, it's been an adjustment but one that I am happy to say, I think we're handling pretty well.
But, living in a southwestern city that is in and of itself only about 70 years old, comes with some unique challenges. Namely, finding a home that has a bit of character without being full-on cowboy kitsch. And, like many areas full of new-builds, or relatively newer neighborhoods, tract homes are pretty much the sum of your choices unless you're fortunate enough to go with a complete custom job.
Let's just say, a complete custom just is not in the cards for this pair! And to make this even more troublesome, the Hubs and I fall into the category of homeowners who like things to be a bit unique. No standard, contractor-grade fixin's for us! Of course, if you heard my husband talk, it's pretty much just me - all my fault. He's says he's happy with a roof and a cot. But, after a little more than a decade and a half together, I've noticed that he's certainly started to develop an opinion about what he likes and doesn't like!
All those quirks and desires for high-quality finishes on an average budget hasn't stopped us though. We found the perfect (relatively) blank slate and after some prodding from friends, we've decided to share our secrets with you on how to make even the most blah tract home into something that is uniquely, unabashedly YOU!
So check out "The Before" tab to see some of the listing photos from our less-than-unique tract home. Then, follow along as we show you how we turned this drab, shades-of-beige tract home into something that we can honestly say is uniquely, unabashedly US!
Just about an hour & a half north of us, is Sedona, AZ. One of our favorite day trip locations! |

Just a sample of how our little tract house was staged when we took the first tour. Talk about shades of beige....Everything was beige! |

Barrel Cacti - Not a native species to the Midwest but all too common in Arizona! |
